Windows 8 Firewall and Other Technology Improvements Expected from Windows 8

As we continue to use our computers in a world where most of our important transactions are conducted through personal internet connections, and being online is an essential component of even using a computer, security continues to be a major issue. Windows 8 has certain improvements for our online security. Cloud computing is very close to the normal way we will use our machines. Here is a look at some of the new security features, such as Windows 8 firewall, that we can expect with the new operating system.

  • Firewall.Windows 8 will interact with information on the internet differently than any other system has. Web-based code, that allows us to web-based applications inside our browser, will now get the full benefit of the whole operating system, and not just the browser it will operate on. This has presented Windows with some important issues and the use of 3rd party software is not recommended as it may have been in the past.
  • SmartFile detect.SmartFile detect is a network based technology that Microsoft has been developing for some time. It is a part of the Explorer 8 browser. In this technology, all user visits to sites where malware and other problems are met, are recorded and shared automatically among all users. This means constant improvements are made and shared among other users. This technology will be a native element of the operating system, and not just the browsers Explorer 8.
  • App Store. An App Store is actually one of the smartest ways to protect our machines. Anything that is installed onto our machines should come from the App Store. That means, even if there is something attempting to install onto our machine without our knowledge, such as some malware, our system will reject it. Although an App Store seems a commercial improvement, there is actually much more to it.
  • Yet Unknown. In recent weeks there has been considerable discussion in Windows 8 related forums of a job advertisement that was released. The job, as a part of NAP (network access protection), was directly related to work being done on Windows 8. It discussed the development of a new technology as the main project of those who would be working in the positions. Google Chrome has released ‘sand-box’ technology, which separates every page that is being viewed online, from the rest of the browser and operating system. Windows 8 must have a technology that is similar or competes with this standard of protection. The job advertisement hints at a radically new security technology in development, that we are yet to know about. It is expected this will be a game-changer.

The Windows 8 operating system will be extremely flexible, and Microsoft claims it will be the most secure system they have ever released. Changes will need to be more than just additions to our security, they will need to be a whole new look at the way our computer, smartphones, tablets, and laptops, protect themselves.
